Netball Players Association Partners with Europe Netball to Launch Level 2 Coaching Course for Elite Players

The Netball Players Association (NPA) is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with Europe Netball to deliver a bespoke Level 2 Coaching Course, tailored specifically for elite netball players. The flexible design of the course will allow players to gain their lead coach qualification alongside their playing commitments.

The programme has been designed to meet the unique needs of elite athletes who are looking to transition into coaching or further develop their understanding of the game. By combining the expertise of the NPA and Europe Netball, the course will offer a dynamic and interactive learning experience, focusing on the strategic, technical, and practical aspects of coaching. The course will be tutored by Anita Navin and Maggie Jackson, both of whom come with a wealth of International and Super League coaching experience.

Supporting the Journey Beyond Playing

The partnership underscores the NPA's ongoing commitment to supporting players in their professional and personal development, with this initiative ensuring that players not only excel during their playing careers but also have the tools and qualifications to contribute meaningfully to netball in new capacities.

Course Highlights

  • Comprehensive Level 2 coaching curriculum, delivered by leading professionals from Europe Netball.

  • Online modules to accommodate the demanding schedules of elite players.

  • Opportunities to apply learning through practical coaching sessions with support from mentors.

Sarah Gandon, Director of Player Service at the NPA, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying: “Having the experience of Maggie and Anita delivering a course to our members gives us the confidence that we will give the players an excellent experience learning the skills of coaching. The players already have advanced understanding of the game and the course will give them the skills to coach, a separate skill in itself. Working with Europe Netball on this project has shown that both organisations are aligned in their aim to deliver a high-quality course with the flexibility needed to make it accessible to the elite players”

Anita Navin, Europe Netball Coach Development Chair highlighted the impact the course could have, stating: “Europe Netball is thrilled to be working with the NPA to support athletes in obtaining their lead coaching award. Both Maggie and I truly believe in a fast track and bespoke programme for athletes in our game. This course will meet the needs of full time athletes and we both look forward to tutoring this first NPA cohort. We look forward to developing our partnership further with the NPA and supporting where we can in the future.’

Maggie Jackson, Europe Netball Events Chair went on to raise the importance of role models for the game, "It is so important for young players to have role models, such as High Performance Athletes to develop their skills and understanding of the game and that is why I am delighted  that these elite players want to engage in their own learning to develop their coaching to benefit and add value to future netball players in Europe. I am very much looking forward to being part of the tutoring team".

How to Get Involved

The first cohort of the Europe Netball Elite Players Level 2 Coaching Course is set to launch in February 2025. Current or former elite players who are interested in participating can find more information and register their interest by e-mailing sarah@netballplayersassocaition.com before the end of January 2025. All players signing up for this course must be NPA members, therefore eligibility includes playing for a UK home nations country, NSL or NXT GEN squad.

This collaboration marks an exciting new partnership for netball, ensuring that the expertise of elite players is passed on to inspire future generations. Together, the NPA and Europe Netball are committed to building a stronger, more sustainable future for the sport.
